Virgin Voyages cabins: how to choose

Checked against the cruise line’s own pages. Policies change, so we confirm the details on your booking before you pay.

Virgin Voyages has five cabin types, from smallest to largest: Insider (no window), Sea View (a window), Sea Terrace (a private terrace), RockStar Quarters and Mega RockStar Quarters (the suites). For most couples the choice comes down to Insider versus Sea Terrace, and the right answer depends on how much time you’ll spend in the room. Your fare matters too, because since October 2025 it decides how your cabin is assigned and whether you can change it.

The five cabin types at a glance

Every cabin gets a Roomy Rainshower, mood lighting, a 43-inch or larger TV, a mini bar, a safe that fits a 17-inch laptop, and North American and European outlets. WiFi, all dining and the shows come with every cabin (see what’s included).

What each type adds

Insider. The entry point, with no window. Virgin lists three versions: The Insider for two, the Solo Insider for one, and the Social Insider for up to four friends.

Sea View. Adds natural light through a window or porthole. The Solo Sea View is built for one; The Sea View has a window seat for two.

Sea Terrace. Your own terrace, and Virgin says almost all of them have a hand-woven hammock. Sub-types include the Central Sea Terrace (mid-ship, which Virgin calls the most popular), The Sea Terrace (forward or aft), the Limited View Sea Terrace (close to lower deck spaces), a version with a slightly smaller balcony but the same interior, and the XL Sea Terrace, with about 30% more living space and a separate toilet and shower.

RockStar Quarters. The suites, designed by Tom Dixon, with a European king, a marble bathroom and a terrace champagne table. Virgin’s compare page lists the Seriously Suite, Brilliant Suite, Cheeky Corner Suite (615 to 857 sq ft) and Sweet Aft Suite (416 to 661 sq ft).

Mega RockStar Quarters. The top tier: Gorgeous (570 sq ft), Posh (833), Fab (950) and the Massive Suite (2,147).

Sea Terrace or Insider?

If the room is only for sleeping, an Insider saves money for Shore Things or the spa. If you like slow mornings or a quiet drink before dinner, the terrace earns its price. Sea Terrace is our default for most couples, and Central is usually where we start looking.

How your fare decides your cabin

For bookings made since October 7, 2025, Virgin’s fare choices (Base, Essential, Premium) apply to Sea Terrace cabins and below. Here’s how each one handles the cabin:

  • Essential and Premium: you choose the cabin type and Virgin assigns the cabin. You can make changes later if there’s availability.
  • Base: the cabin type is assigned automatically within the category you booked, with no changes.
  • Lock It In: a guarantee. You get the category you booked or higher, the exact cabin is assigned closer to sailing, and changes aren’t allowed.
  • Suites (not Lock It In): assigned automatically, with changes possible depending on availability.

Connecting cabins are limited and only available on fares that allow cabin changes. Our how booking works guide compares the fares in full.

Solo and accessible cabins

Solo Sailors can book the Solo Insider or Solo Sea View. On select voyages Virgin also cuts the second fare by up to 70% for one Sailor in a Sea Terrace (Lock It In rates excluded). More in sailing solo.

Virgin has two kinds of accessible cabin. Ambulatory accessible cabins suit Sailors who use a cane or walker and want features like grab bars. Fully accessible cabins are for wheelchair and scooter users, with doorways of at least 34 inches, no step into the bathroom and a roll-in shower with a fold-down seat. Book directly into one and confirm you need its features.

Upgrades

Whether you can change or upgrade depends on when you booked and your fare. Virgin also runs Level Upgrade: on eligible sailings you offer an amount on top of your booking price. You’re only charged if Virgin accepts, most answers come about 48 hours before sailing, and you keep the promotions you already have. Every category except the Massive Suite is eligible.

Quick answers

What are the cabin types on Virgin Voyages?

From smallest to largest: Insider (no window), Sea View (a window), Sea Terrace (a private terrace), RockStar Quarters and Mega RockStar Quarters (the suites). Each type has sub-types, such as Solo Insider or XL Sea Terrace.

Is a Sea Terrace worth it over an Insider on Virgin Voyages?

An Insider (105 to 177 sq ft) has no window, while a Sea Terrace (185 to 225 sq ft) adds space and a private terrace, most with a hammock. If you spend a lot of time in the cabin or want your coffee outside, the terrace is worth pricing out; if the cabin is just for sleeping, an Insider is the better value.

What do you get in RockStar Quarters on Virgin Voyages?

RockStar Quarters add access to Richard's Rooftop (a members-only sun deck), early booking for dining, events and Shore Things, RockStar Agents, early boarding through a VIP entrance and a curated in-room bar with the first round included. Mega RockStar Quarters add a daily bar tab, Thermal Suite access, a private transfer or free parking where available, a bottomless in-room bar and faster WiFi.

Can I choose my exact cabin on Virgin Voyages?

For bookings made since October 7, 2025, it depends on the fare. On Essential and Premium you choose the cabin type and Virgin assigns the cabin, with changes possible later if available. Base assigns the type within your category with no changes, and Lock It In is a guarantee: you get your category or higher, assigned closer to sailing.

Does Virgin Voyages have cabins for solo travelers?

Yes. Virgin lists a Solo Insider and a Solo Sea View, both built for one Sailor. On select voyages Virgin also reduces the second fare by up to 70% when one Sailor books a Sea Terrace (not on Lock It In rates).

Does Virgin Voyages have accessible cabins?

Yes. There are ambulatory accessible cabins (for Sailors using a cane or walker) and fully accessible cabins with roll-in showers for wheelchair and scooter users. Virgin asks you to book directly into an accessible cabin and confirm you need its features.
