Virgin Voyages: what's included and what costs extra
Checked against the cruise line’s own pages. Policies change, so we confirm the details on your booking before you pay.
A Virgin Voyages fare includes more than most cruise lines: every restaurant onboard, basic drinks (water, sodas, non-pressed juices, tea and drip coffee), WiFi, group fitness classes and the shows. What costs extra is alcohol, specialty coffee, the spa, Shore Things (excursions), a few dining extras, room service delivery on small orders, and gratuities. Below is the full list, so the onboard bill holds no surprises.
Included in your fare
Every restaurant. Meals at all 20+ eateries onboard are included, specialty restaurants too, with no surcharge. You do need reservations for the sit-down restaurants, which open in the app on a date set by your fare (see how booking works), and there are also eateries that don’t need a reservation.
Basic drinks. Filtered still and sparkling water, sodas, non-pressed juices, sachet teas and drip coffee. Drip coffee is available in The Galley 24 hours a day.
WiFi. Included on every sailing. Your fare sets the level: Basic on Base (messaging, social media and light browsing), Classic on Essential (adds audio calls), and Premium WiFi for two devices on Premium.
Fitness. Full gym access and group classes such as HIIT, barre, yoga, spin and bungee.
Entertainment. The shows and onboard entertainment are included. You can’t reserve seats for shows, so arrive a little early for the ones you care about.

Bar Tab: Virgin’s answer to a drink package
Virgin doesn’t sell a traditional unlimited drink package. Instead there’s Bar Tab: credit you buy before your sailing to spend on premium drinks, and Virgin adds bonus credit when you buy it. Three rules matter:
- You buy it before the voyage, in the app or your account. It isn’t sold onboard.
- It doesn’t cover spa services or bottles to take home.
- Anything you don’t use isn’t refunded, so buy for how you actually drink.
If you’d rather not think about it, the Premium fare includes a daily drinks credit. And whatever you drink, Virgin says there’s no need to tip for drinks.
Bringing your own
Each cabin can carry on up to two 750 ml bottles of wine, sparkling wine or Champagne. Drink them in your cabin for free, or pay the $25 corkage fee to open one at dinner.
How we budget a Virgin trip
We start with the fare and taxes, add gratuities for every night, then ask three questions: how much do you drink, do you want the spa, and how many Shore Things will you book? Those three lines are where Virgin budgets swing. Everything else (food, basic drinks, WiFi, classes, shows) is already paid for.

WiFi is included on every sailing, but the level depends on your fare: Basic on Base fares, Classic on Essential, which adds audio calls, and Premium WiFi for two devices on Premium fares.
